Visitor Management Over The Festive Season

December into early January is often called the silly season in South Africa. Employers cut back, social visits are prolific, drinking consumption increases, employees take leave, students aren’t at school or varsity, spending is high, delivery vehicles are everywhere and criminals are active. Most of us let our guard down during the festive season as we try to relax, but security is pivotal over this time. Let’s zone in on the significance of visitor management over the festive season and all year round.

Tips for Visitor Management Success

During the holiday period, visitor management can be challenging for property owners and managers. Here are some tips to keep people safe and property secure.

1. Put a plan of action in place

There should always be a written security plan of action in place, but you may need to include some additional details and variations for the festive season. More importantly, the plan of action needs to be clearly communicated and handed on to any temporary security staff who may be stepping in whilst permanent staff go on vacation. If there are any security threats during the holiday period, everyone should know exactly what to do.

2. Ensure your visitor management system is up to date

The best way to manage visitors is with a visitor management system. The security benefits of a VMS include enhanced safety, emergency management, personal information protection, threat management and occupational health and safety act compliance.

Always make sure your VMS is up to date and relevant for your unique security needs because any glitches could result in a security breach. Don’t put things off for the new year or the new month. At SysControl Secure, our own system – V PASS – enables businesses, complexes and residential estates to effortlessly control and manage access to their premises.

3. Check your access points

All property access points should be secure – there should be no easy entries for criminals. There are a few things you can do ahead of the holidays to improve your building’s access control. The key thing is to find an access control system that works for you.

Early detection is key if you want to stay one step ahead of criminals. Along with your access control system, make sure your lighting, CCTV system and alarm system are fully operational.
