What is a QR code reader?

A QR code is a type of matrix or two-dimensional barcode. It’s a machine-readable optical label that can store lots of data that points to a website or application. A QR code uses numeric, alphanumeric, byte/binary and kanji encoding modes to store data efficiently. It consists of black squares in a grid on a white background, which can then be read by an imaging device such as a QR code reader or camera. The required data is then extracted from the image patterns.

QR codes are becoming a great identity authentication option for access control systems, particularly when access is temporary or for a limited time, e.g. couriers, contractors and cleaners.

What is a RFID card reader?

A RFID reader is a device used to get data from an RFID tag, which is used to track individual objects. Radio waves are used to transfer information from the tag to the reader. RFID is similar technology to barcodes. However, the RFID tag doesn’t have to be scanned directly or be in line-of-sight to the reader – it just needs to be within the range of the reader. 

RFID access control systems are a good door entry solution. It’s a type of key card or key fob system that uses RFID technology to verify identity. RFID access control systems can be used in a variety of buildings, including residential apartments or complexes, industrial facilities and commercial RFID office parks.
