December into early January is often called the silly season in South Africa. Employers cut…
In May 2021, the award-winning Gallagher Command Centre v8.50 was released. Its features include mobile credential syncing between different sites, advanced integration and a number of improvements for increased site security and user efficiency. It saves administration costs and provides a frictionless experience for cardholders. It also brings the latest in smart technology, including a cipher pad feature.
For sites that require a higher level of security, a standard Card + PIN authentication may not be sufficient. This is due to the risk of a user’s PIN number being read by a third party from a distance while it is entered into the keypad, or by tracing the keys used on the keypad. To reduce this risk, Gallagher has introduced a new feature that allows you to configure T20 and T21 terminals to present a randomised key array on the screen each time PIN entry is required after presenting a card. This can be applied for both access control PIN entry and when logging on to perform alarm management functions.
The cipher pad improves security and strengthens PIN safety with its randomised on-screen key display. It adds another layer of protection for high-security sites needing strong PIN safety. How does it work? When a card is presented, PINs are protected by randomising keypad numbers so as to prevent shoulder surfing. It can also be adapted to function for users who are visually impaired. Let’s take a quick look at how it works:
This intelligent cipher pad feature recently won a 2021 Security Today New Product of the Year award in the United States. These awards honour security equipment manufacturers whose outstanding product development achievements are particularly noteworthy in their contribution to security improvement. Gallagher’s cipher pad feature won in the Access Control Devices/Peripherals category.
