These are exciting times for Avigilon Corporation, a leading global provider of end-to-end security solutions! They recently made it public knowledge that they have acquired the entire patent portfolio and the patent licensing program of ObjectVideo. As one would expect, it came at an arm and a leg with a hefty price tag of $80.3 million.
ObjectVideo emerged in 1998 and is renowned for being an industry giant in the field of intelligent video solutions. ObjectVideo’s video analytics patents, now acquired by Avigilon, are licensed and deployed by leading IP video manufacturers around the world.
ObjectVideo’s impressive portfolio which includes 76 US and international patents and over 50 US and international patent applications, can now be added to Avigilon’s already impressive resume under the acquisition.
Avigilon’s herculean portfolio is bolstered by now being able to lay claim to 124 US and international patents, and 202 US and international patent applications โ impressive to say the least! Alexander Fernandes, founder, president, CEO and chairman of the board stated that as far as the video surveillance industry goes, its future resides within video analytics. He commented, “The Acquisition not only bolsters Avigilon’s portfolio of intellectual property but it also brings with it a recurring royalty revenue stream.”
Fernandes is of the belief that the acquisition will take Avigilon to new heights by providing additional freedom to operate. He also said that it aligns Avigilon to further cement its place as a market giant.
The patent licensing program provides companies with the opportunity to leverage the innovative features of industry-leading video analytics patents. Nineteen royalty-paying licensees have joined the program, including global corporations such as Sony Corporation, Panasonic System Networks amongst several others.
